EXTENSION-Bee Museum Photo Contest
EXTENSION – PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST 2024-2025
The purpose of the contest is to highlight, through the photographic lens, the relationship between “Bee and Human,” promote the #SAVETHEBEES initiative, and preserve and spread the history of Melekouni and Beekeeping.
Organized by the Bee Museum and Melissokomiki Dodecanese.
CONTEST CATEGORIES
1. BEES, HIVES, AND BEEKEEPERS IN THE DODECANESE
This category includes photos depicting the life of bees, hives, beekeepers, and their practices.
2. TRADITIONAL MELEKOUNI AND BEEKEEPING
This is a special category: we will photograph or scan old black-and-white or color photos that we find forgotten in our drawers related to traditional Melekouni or beekeeping on our islands.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE
Contest applications will be accepted until April 30, 2025.
PRIZES
For the 1st category, the best photos will be awarded the following prizes:
1st PRIZE: €400
2nd PRIZE: €200
3rd PRIZE: €100
For the 2nd special category, the best photos will be awarded the following prizes:
1st SPECIAL PRIZE: €500
2nd SPECIAL PRIZE: €300
(All prizes are 50% cash & 50% Melissokomiki Dodecanese gift vouchers)
All participants will receive commemorative gifts.
Participation Terms
Participation in the 1st category with 1 to 5 photos (color or black-and-white) exclusively in digital JPEG files with a resolution of 300 dpi.
Participation in the 2nd category with 1 to 10 photos. These photos must be either taken from old photos or scanned with a resolution of 300 dpi in digital JPEG files. These photos will be evaluated based on their cultural information and their age.
Using a camera or mobile phone
All individuals who have completed their 15th year of age and are permanent and legal residents of Greece are eligible to participate in the contest. Participation is free for all. Employees of Melissokomiki Dodecanese, as well as their spouses and first-degree relatives, are excluded. The photos and their copyrights must belong to the photographer and must not violate any legal provisions.

The judging panel will consist of distinguished photographers and a member of the Bee Museum. The announcement of the winners will be made on World Bee Day on May 20, 2023, and will be accompanied by the Bee Museum events.
Winners will be personally notified by the organizer after a process of verifying their details. It is further clarified that, for the safety of the winners, any publication of their details will only include their name and surname.
The organizer reserves the right to republish these photos. They have the right to organize photo exhibitions with the entries and any other action using them that contributes to promoting the contest’s purpose.
Participants have the right to access their personal data for information or to object to further processing, based on Article 13 of Law 2472/97, for the protection of personal data.
Participation in this contest implies unconditional acceptance of the aforementioned terms of participation in their entirety.
The contest will be postponed if the number of entries does not exceed 30. In this case, the existing entries will remain valid when the contest is re-announced.
